While I fully respect the need for immigration control and policy reform, I am writing to seek urgent clarification on whether these proposed changes will be retrospectively applied to individuals who have already entered the UK under existing schemes, such as the BNO visa pathway.
Specifically, could the Home Office please confirm:
1. Will the proposed extension of the residency requirement for ILR to 10 years apply to those already residing in the UK under the BNO visa route?
2. Will existing BNO visa holders who were admitted under the “5+1” scheme be allowed to continue towards settlement on the basis of the original terms?
3. Will the proposed increase in language requirements or the new points-based settlement assessment be applied to current BNO visa holders when they apply for ILR?
Given the deeply personal and long-term nature of relocation decisions for families like mine, certainty and continuity in immigration policy is of the utmost importance. I would be grateful if the Home Office or my elected Member of Parliament could provide a timely and official response to this matter.
